Apple website is still not offering a SIM free version of the new iPhone X and right now the shipping time for the ones they do offer is 3 to 4 weeks. Luckily Consumer Cellular, the carrier I am with, started offering the new iPhone X Friday morning. I placed my order and will be receiving it today 
So, if you are not with one of the major carriers, don't give up. Keep checking with your carrier, they may surprise you. I'm getting my phone a lot sooner than I had expected!
