Hi Cyndi - Happy Thanksgiving and so glad you got the X. 

To turn off True Tone go to settings➡️display and Brightness. The True Tone can be toggled off there for a bright white. You can adjust brightness there or quickly you can swipe down from the upper right corner and get the control center. There is a brightness control there if you don't want to turn off True Tone. 

Be careful - the Oled screen is prone to burn in so don't get brightness too high if the screen is going to be on for a long time with a static picture or page on. I think Face ID allows the screen to be turned off quickly so this problem is going to be rare.

I had the 8 Plus and liked the new features but the iPhone X is so much better. 

I love the smaller size in the hand but the much larger screen is a delight. 

I wish they would allow the screen to rotate like the Plus models do. After all it has a Plus sized screen! 

Not all apps yet have been updated to take advantage of the X screen but I am getting updates almost daily that are implementing X screen features.

I was not expecting to get the X for another week. I checked inventor at the store this morning and there wasn't any. My son happen to come over this afternoon and mentioned he had looked and there was stock a store further away than our usual Apple store. I did a quick look and BINGO! Our store had stock! I called to be sure and the nice man on the phone said there was a line but they had stock and he thought I would be in good shape if I went there soonest. SCORE! Two new iPhone X. I canceled the phones that were on order. A beauty for sure. Just need to get used to the new way of doing things. Like you all mentioned, this thing is fast! The unlock happens so fast. I want to find the setting that lets me have a brighter screen. The true tone thing isn't as bright as I would like. Thank to all for your reviews and pushing me over the iPhone X fence. I was seriously going to stick with the 8+. Right now I am glad that I didn't.
