There have been a few here with messaging issues the last month or so and I believe I've heard some complaints elsewhere.
I wonder if its iOS related? Hard to know. If you get no relief from AT&T, maybe the next update will help. One can always hope.
If you have a apple store nearby, I'd see it there is any diagnostics they can run.
