I have an iPhone 5s ( iOS 9.0.2 ) & an iPhone 6 ( iOS 9.1 Beta 5 )
The iPhone 5s syncs to a new iMac ( OS X 10.11, El Capitan )
The iPhone 6 syncs to a 2013 MBP ( OS X 10.11, El Capitan )
Both Macs are running iTunes 12.3.1.23
The iTunes library is shared using iTunes built in Home sharing.
When I try to use copy purchase from the iPhone I get a progress bar at the top of the screen and when iTunes finishes NO apps have been updated.
I'm using nothing but Apple hardware & software. All software is the latest version for that device. It seams reasonable ( to me ) to expect them to play well together.
Synced devices should be in sync with each other once the sync process is completed. If not then it's not a true sync.
P.S. Using "automaticity install new apps" will update apps. But it will do this for apps that are in iTunes but not on the iPhone. I have several apps that I have removed from my iPhone. So in order to use this I would have remove those same apps from iTunes. ( I rotate apps and keep the "extras" on iTunes. ) So in a way this would make the devices match. I may be "forced" to remove all the extra apps from iTunes in order to get any kind of auto update function.
