Or am I missing a step to activate?
It is something that came with one version of iOS, I think 8, although it might be 7. If it is plugged in they saying, "Hey Siri," will activate it. Problem is that sometimes if I am listening to a podcast, the TV or whatever, it might think it heard it. With the problems lately in Syria, often when I have CNN on the iPhone will activate Siri, as that country sounds too much like it.
