Re: [apple-iphone] Syncing and app updates

Don/Bruce, I have the same problem with iTuneson my PC. Syncing has not worked for a long time. I have to download updates twice, once in iTunes and once on the iPhone. Transfering purchases does not work either. I have been able to sync by turning on Wifi Sync but that is such a pain that I turned it back off.

Why don't you tell us what all 4 devices are, including model, and what OS each is running? Are you syncing all iDevices to the same Mac?

When syncing apps or transferring apps from an iDevice to your iMac or MBP, what are you expecting to see? Why are you saying that it is not syncing?

As far syncing between music between your Macs, how are you doing that? Are you Sharing the iTunes Library? Are you using a service other than iTunes? Are you using a cloud based service to sync, like your iClould account?

If you are running different versions of iOS on your iDevices, then you might need different versions of the apps. In this case, beside not having older version updates for the older iOS versions, only updates for the newer iOS versions would be available to your Macs. And this may cause you to have more than one version of an app on your Mac. One for the earlier iOS and one for the later iOS.

I use a lightning cable not WiFi sync.

Sync this iPhone when connected is checked.
Auto download is not checked ( this only effects that device).
Auto update is not checked (this only effects that device)
Transfer purchases acts like it's transferring but in the end it does not.

I see lots of settings for what and how to sync but nothing about apps.

The whole purpose of syncing is to have the two devices contain the same information at the end of the process and the biggest most important part ( for me ) is to keep the apps synced. And this is not happening. I seam to remember at some point in the past it did. I have well over 100 apps and updating 4 devices manually is not the way this should be done. I should be able to update the computer and sync and have that process update the iPhone. In fact iTunes syncs my music between the two computers so really I should be able to update the iMac then share/sync to the MBP and update the iPhones when I plug them in to charge/sync.
