It's been my experience that the phone shows more all the time. I no longer pay attention to it.
For a fast report I dial *3282# for a text from AT&T. It gives me my phone and the total.
With 6 phones I was able to give up my unlimited and get 20g family for the same money. Not so with only two phones.
I use about 7g myself.
