I'm confused. Why would you want to turn data off? If you're going to pay the $10 a day, it shouldn't be because you want to make telephone calls. How many telephone calls do you make, anyway? One pays the $10 a day to use DATA.
Last year in Italy I used AT&T's plan and paid $10 per day and it was well worth it. I used my phone the same way I use it here, with heavy usage of apps and the web. I think I made maybe one telephone call the whole time.

Hi, Re data, good to know. It is $10/day but only on the days you use it. Sure beats having to find a SIM. I'll probably not have to make an international call but wanted to be prepared for any emergencies. Joyce

You should have data turned OFF at all times, and only switch it on when you need it. Neither voice nor SMS (texts) use data..What are the rates for using the travel pass? Just because you can use your SIM abroad doesn't necessarily mean it's a good idea.OttoOn 12 July 2018 at 13:49, joycekeay@comcast.net [apple-iphone] <apple-iphone@yahoogroups.com> wrote:
Hi, Thank you all for your responses. I've just chatted with Verizon and found that I can use their international travel pass which uses the phone's existing SIM. Somebody advised me to turn off data roaming but I guess I need to have it on while making a call but need to shut it off immediately afterwards. So I'm good to go. Joyce Keay
