Hi, Thanks for all the info. Re the exchange rate, I think I will get most of my euros from my bank as I will probably be in a bit of a rush and not very well rested by the time I get to Shannon Airport. I belong to a facebook group called Ireland Travel Tips so I have been well warned about the need for getting to Dublin Airport in plenty of time to go through US Customs there. It has been suggested that we arrive three hours before our flight time. I will keep my eyes peeled for the lounge. Guess I'll wait and pay the 39 at the door. No telling how much time will be left after we go through customs. Is customs the last thing we have to do before we get to our gate?

Regarding your phone, you can set it to enable WiFi calling and rent a device like TravelWiFi or SkyRoam which would give you data as well. Keep in mind that you will go through US Customs at the Ireland airport when you return to the States so allow extra time for this. Just past Customs is the 51st & Green Lounge, which is well worth paying extra to use, because of all the free food (whole meals) & beverages. You can book this online for 35 Euros or pay 39 at the door. It's free if you're travelling business class.
