I would have a SIM card installed by someone at a store in Ireland and I would make sure it is working before you leave the store . I recently have purchased SIM card in England , Italy , and Germany . The ones installed in England (Vodafone) worked but the cards I bought and installed myself required activation and $$$ . The Vodafone activation system is all via telephone prompts , unfamiliar terminology, and NO live person to speak with . Confusing "bundle" options . The card I bought and had installed in Italy at Vodaphone store did not work and store was closed before I realized it . Had to wait until next day for them to replace the faulty SIM card for free . That did not work either , the third card worked well . Vodaphone in Germany was fine but they would not simply add to the Italian card , said "we are not connected with Vodafone Italy at all". Had to buy a new Vodafone Germany card . Some of the problems making sure the card works before you leave the store are related to the fact that it sometimes takes 2-3 hours for the card to be activated .

Taking your phone to Ireland.
I would get a new SIM card after arrival in Ireland.1) The card that you get there will work. They might even put it into your phone and test it. The one from Amazon might not match their networks.2) 99.999% of Irish speak English. You will not have a communication problem.Bim BousmanLibertarian/SocialistOn Jul 10, 2018, at 12:48 AM, joycekeay@comcast.net [apple-iphone] <apple-iphone@yahoogroups.com> wrote:Hi, I'm a brand new member of this group and also a brand new owner of an iPhone SE, although I've had other Apple products for years - a MacBook, iPod and iPad. I know I'm entitled to support from Apple but thought I'd try this group first.
Yesterday after calling a hotel I was given four options to connect to the right person. I hit the 1 but nothing seemed to happen. I tried it two more times with no luck. This morning I thought maybe I had to hit the green phone button after choosing an option number but just hitting the 1 seemed to work. Perhaps the hotel was having a problem with its phone system or is this something that sometimes happens with an iPhone?
Next question. I'm heading to Ireland in the fall and would like to enroll in an International plan. Do any of you have any particular recommendations for a SIM card or warnings about SIM cards to stay away from? I'd prefer to preorder from Amazon rather than trying to deal with the purchase in the Shannon airport. Thanks. Joyce Keay
