On your phone, Settings>Wi-Fi turn on Ask to Join Networks. That way when your phone sees a wifi connection, you'll be asked if you want to join and you have the option of not joining.

I was away from home this morning. Wi-Fi picked up on the free connection where I was at, but with Wi-Fi on email could not be receive from Gmail into my Mail program nor could I access Gmail online. I turned off the Wi-Fi on my phone and everything worked.
Doesn't seem like I should have to remember to turn Wi-Fi off and on like that. Seems as though if Wi-Fi don't work in an area the phone should automatically go a cellular connection. BTW, I'm with an AT&T network.
Thanks,
Bobbie

Have you tried the highest rated email app?
With 4.5 stars in iTunes, the Yahoo Mail app is the highest rated email app on the market. What are you waiting for? Now you can access all your inboxes (Gmail, Outlook, AOL and more) in one place. Never delete an email again with 1000GB of free cloud storage.
