FWIW, I have noticed that when I think I am not getting audio from my vehicles it is because the vehicle volume level is not set high enough. I have to turn the radio volume way up to hear whatever I am sourcing from my iPhone.
The volume level is set much lower for radio listening.
This issue has little to do with the sound level on the iPhone.
So as a possible fix, try cranking up you volume level. It might resolve your problem.

I've posted the following in the Apple Communities for iPhone and gotten no replies:
___________________________________________
"iPhone 6, iOS 10.1.1,
I'm in the US with Verizon as my carrier,
Siri is 'on', Location services is 'on',
Maps and Google Maps are both set to use location 'while using' app,
Driving & Navigation voice volume is set for normal volume.
I cannot get turn-by-turn navigation either from the phone speaker or my car (Camry XLE) speakers.
[Note that a few OSs ago I was getting audio navigation instruction through the car speakers. Then, as I recall, the 'secret sauce' for navigation sounds was clicking on a speaker symbol on the bottom of the screen, but no speaker icon is there now]"
___________________________________________
Yesterday, while not in my car and prior to taking a trip, I defined the start and destination locations in Google Maps. The phone speaker audibly began to give me the first few driving instructions. Then, leaving the phone on, I got into the car, started it and began driving. Although the map on the phone traced the route, I got not a sound from the phone or the car speakers. The only things different from the last time I successfully used this were at least one update to the phone OS and, possibly, and update to the Google Maps app.
The iOS 10 iPhone User Guide says:
"Note: To get directions, iPhone must be connected to the Internet. To get directions involving your current location, Location Services must also be on. (See also Location Services.)"
It appears as though when I'm at home, within range of my network, the audio works, but outside the network it fails. If I need to be within range of a wi-fi hotspot to use this function it is worthless. What am I missing?
Thanks,
.................Mike
