Here is an update. I have been charging my phone plugged into my desktop for years. Now, when using the desktop to charge, the phone gets very warm. If I use an external USB charger, it does not and charges faster. Which cable I use makes no difference. Sometimes the phone will not open with a press of the on button for several tries. There have been no changes or modifications in my computer at all.
