Tech writer Glenn Fleishman, on the Macworld podcast, commented that at one point his device was plugged in and apparently charging (according to the battery display on the Home Page), but the charge level was not increasing and the device was getting hot.
It turned out that he had 14,000 photos that the device was busy identifying faces and other features on, using a lot of power to do so.
