You could try a Bluetooth device to plug your aux wire into. I'm using one now. They are available in the another thing to recharge or with a USB for power and no recharge needed.
Also iPhones are pretty smart in knowing to switch to your Bluetooth earpiece when a call comes in or VoIP functions.
There is also a griffin product coming called iclip or something like that for $20 to plug you phones into and has volume play pause skip functions. A bargain for $20.
