I see from the AT&T site that the microcell presupposes a separate broadband connection, by fiber or by coax, to which to connect your calls. It probably would not give satisfactory results with a slow DSL connection over copper wire.
You're right in this post as well as the previous one regarding WiFi boosting the cell signal. I can't speak to the required speed of the broadband connection because mine is a fast one.

On the one hand, my internet connection is slow enough that it doesn't qualify as "broadband".
On the other, I didn't get an iPhone until I knew that AT&T had adequate service here.
In fact, I sometimes use my cellular data via iPhone hotspot when I get tired of the slowness of my DSL.
