> Since killing the battery in my TomTom GPS I've been trying unsuccessfully to get the Maps app in my iPhone to work with the Bluetooth audio system in my car. I almost always get no voice output, either from the iPhone or the car audio, although I did get audio one time.

When I get into my car (Ford C-Max) and turn it on, my 5S automatically, and within about 30 seconds, pairs with the car, and the last thing I was playing (usually) starts playing over the car's sound system.
Whenever there is a notification beep, it mutes whatever is playing, and beeps over the car's sound system. I don't usually use TomTom on the iPhone with this car since it has built-in navigation, but that, too, plays over the car's sound system.
I haven't done any related setting changes — iPhone or car — since moving from 7.1.2 to 8.0 to 8.1
