Were you at the Directions screen, that is, had you started route guidance? That is the point were Siri would speak & the icon appears when the screen is tapped.

I tried tapping the map again in Apple Maps and I don't see any icon to change the settings to get it to send sound to the car radio. It may send sound automatically but I have not tried it in my car yet
