I don't have a speaker problem with my GPS app (called skobbler) except when I plug it in the charger. Then I hear nothing. I have to unplugged it to hear the directions. Yesterday, I was in the car and a voice call came thru..the phone was plugged into the lighter, and all of a sudden the sound came thru, but then it stopped broadcasting sound again. It isn't just my gps app either... other devices I've plugged in don't have sound unless they are unplugged.
Haven't figured that one out... but no matter as far as the GPS is concerned. If I know where I am going (kind of) I can follow easily on the map without the sound.
On a related matter, my car is very noisy anyway, so if I really need to hear something I use my earphones, but I don't like to do that usually if I am the driver. When I am outside my house watching TV on my iPad, I don't always hear what is said, so I have a small external speaker I bought a long time ago and it works like a charm. I could use it on my phone, but not usually worth my taking it with me everywhere.
