1. The term "SMS" specifically refers to the 160-character Short Message Service provided -- and billed -- by carriers. Apple's iMessage service from iOS device to iOS device may be sending short messages, but it is NOT "SMS", and referring to it that way is misleading.

2. There COULD be data charges (about 1 kilobyte of data for every 1000 characters texted) if you choose NOT to utilize Wifi for some reason.
