Thanks for the reply, Paul. The cell signal at our house is not real strong, but the fact that I can stop the "rapid depletion" by turning off the Wi-Fi portion of the iPhone wouldn't have anything to do with the cellular signal strength at our house, would it? I'm not trying to be "smart", with that question, I'm trying to learn.

I accidentally deleted the email about the battery going dead quickly at home. The first thing that hit me is that a Cell Phone transmits power based on strength of the receiver. In other words, the weaker the received signal the more transmit power it will use. Is your cell signal weak at home? That could be it.
