I just saw this Zagg screen protector. It's not cheap but neither is the XS Max.

I finally got full sun this afternoon. I was able to read the screen with the sun to my back. The only time I could not see it was when the sun was reflecting off the screen to my eye. I checked and the auto brightness was turned up to full. I love the XS Max.
