Personally, for breakage same, I paid Apple to put one of their tempered glass screen protectors on my iPhone 8 Plus. Love it.

I finally had some sunshine today. Was not a bright as I would have liked. I didn't have any problems seeing the screen on my XS Max. I'll keep trying for a brighter day.
