Re: [apple-iphone] Re: iCloud seems to have died

Once you get use to using I Cloud, you will most likely like it. I don't back up to my Mac anymore. Just iCloud. My phone and iPad automat send things to iCloud. When I purchased my iPhone 8 Plus, I turned on iCloud right away in the Apple store. When I left the Apple Store, my phone was downloading everything from iCloud. By the time I got home, my phone had all my stuff on it.

My iPhone and iTunes quit syncing Calendar and Contacts a long time ago. I get an error message that syncing failed.

I think Apple does not want us to use iTunes to back up our iDevices any longer, but to use iCloud. I nearly lost a lot of data off my iPhone and Macbook by accidentally turning on iCloud during an upgrade once. It was a real hassle to recover from backups.

I personally do not like nor want to, nor do, use iCloud. I'm really afraid of the time when that is the only option. In the meantime I use iSkySoft ToolBox for iOS to back up my iPhone data in addition to using iTunes.

Now replying to my own message. The problem now is that itunes is not syncing iphone and PC. It is going through all the procedure in the usual way, but a check with test entries reveals that no Contacts are being exchanged, and no Calendar entries either. The correct boxes are ticked in itunes and there are no error messages. It just does not actually work.

I think I need to remove all traces of both itunes and icloud and start again. But how?

Thank you both Sandy and Dennis for responses. I think I probably need to completely remove all traces of iCloud from the PC. The behaviour suggests that Outlook still thinks it is somewhere! I cannot, on the Apple site, find total removal of iCloud instructions. Is it somewhere?

Having said that, the Apple Calendar in my iphone does seem to have become unreliable anyway. My iPhone 8 plus is a fairly recent purchase, and is fully updated. Can it be that my longstanding Calendar has entries that recent Apple software and hardware does not quite like?

I would like to ensure total removal of iCloud and rely only on itunes to sync, if I can.

I have a similar problem. I have all of my Apple devices, iPhone, iPad and MacBook Pro connected to my iCloud but the calendar is not the same in all three places. Any thoughts?

Thanks
