Thanks for the input. Looks like an anti-glare tempered glass screen protector is needed, as most of the time the sun is not at my back. I've ordered one from Amazon which should be here next week as they were out of stock.

I finally got full sun this afternoon. I was able to read the screen with the sun to my back. The only time I could not see it was when the sun was reflecting off the screen to my eye. I checked and the auto brightness was turned up to full. I love the XS Max.
