Backing up to iCloud is actually much simpler and it's pretty much a set it an forget it procedure. I use iCloud for both my iPhone X and iPad mini. You'll know when ya didn't back up cause you'll get a Notification.

Hi Patti - yes you can back it up to iTunes. I do my X every day. Nothing has changed from the 6S. I went from the 6S to the X via iTunes. The other option is using iCloud backup but I have never done that.
