Re: [apple-iphone] Desktop vs Laptop?

That was the direction I was going.

I had planned to get a keyboard for my iPad.

Then I realized:

-I wanted to be able to sync my iPhone to it.   Need a full computer to sync, plus  backup iPhone.

-I wanted more storage.   My MacBook is 512, and unlimited with external HDDs.

-I wanted on-board capability of using / downloading SD cards.

-I also have 2 Garmin GPS to sync/update, which cannot be done via iPad.

-I wanted ability to backup to an external hard drive for extra storage, as mentioned above..

For the weight of a full size iPad, I get a very slightly heavier MacBook which has a retina screen, USB port, a full keyboard, double the storage of the iPad I had, more battery life (by comparison), and it's a real
computer, not a tablet.

I've had 2 or 3 iPads; and I'm on my 6th version of the iPhone.   The MacBook is definitely more usable.

One can get a keyboard conver for the iPad that makes typing as easy as young in a laptop. For me, the portability of an iPad is much better. Quite a bit lighter weight.

But I most often use it in the living room, on the couch, often reading email while watching TV with my wife, and therefore I'm not being unsociable.   HAHA!

I also use it on the kitchen island.

The portability is why I chose a laptop over a desktop.

I had an iPad mini, which I did like a lot, but I missed having a keyboard when writing documents or typing emails.   So a notebook computer is the best fit for my needs.

I am switching to Mac from PC and got a great deal on a DESKTOP Mac, but I been noticing

many seem to have laptops even though more expensive, much smaller screens, way harder to

type on, a lot of times even slower with a lot of times less storage. Pius hard to upgrade

yourself if you wanted to swap out parts.

I know portability is a big reason but I am trying to figure out why so many get Mac laptops

when they use them at home 99.9% or even 100%of the time?

I talked to 5-6 maybe 7 people I know and they have laptops 100% they use it at home and

never take them anywhere?????  They say they might take it here or there, but never have??

I just don't get it???
