Some people have had their devices bricked (well, in some loop) while updating.
I haven't had even the slightest problem upgrading one iPhone and three iPads. Nor updating my iPhone 7 Plus from iOS 10 to 10.0.1.
At least a Dutch website advises to upgrade using iTunes and the USB cable, rather than over the air. The size of the download file is 1 GB, so to receive and unpack it, you'll need more free storage space than that, either on your iPhone or on that iTunes system.
I always do it over the air, except last year concerning my iPad 2, as it had bricked. But all of my iOS devices have at least 64 GB.
Hope this helps. :-)

Is the time right to update yet? A friend complained but wasn't specific. Any noticeable issues?

Have you tried the highest rated email app?
With 4.5 stars in iTunes, the Yahoo Mail app is the highest rated email app on the market. What are you waiting for? Now you can access all your inboxes (Gmail, Outlook, AOL and more) in one place. Never delete an email again with 1000GB of free cloud storage.
