Re: [apple-iphone] TouchID

My family currently has 3 iPhones. A 5s, 6 & 6+.
All on 8.1.2. None of us are having Touch ID issues. It's possible that the touch sensor needs to be replaced. Considering how many millions of sensors they make, a certain percentage are going to be faulty.

We have found that 8.1.1 greatly improved fingerprint recognition. 8.1.2 didn't change that for us.

There other factors that affect it's ability to read your prints. Humidity places a big part. Especially in the north during the winter. Drier air makes it harder for the sensor to read finger prints. My understanding is that different levels of skin moisture slightly change the shape of the fingerprint and can cause issues. I have a friend in NY who has to retrain the fingerprints at the beginning of winter and then again in spring.

My experience is similar to Gijzette's. I'm on 8.1.2 on an iPhone 6.  No problems at all with TouchID. I upgraded to the 6 from a 4s so this is my first experience with TouchID.  (Loving my iPhone 6!)

Jim,

I'm on 8.1.2 on my iPhone 5S and Touch ID seems to be working just fine. I use it several times a day and since the upgrade I think it has only failed once or twice which is normal for me.

Has anyone, who had been using TouchID regularly, and had it working just fine, started having problems with it?

I started when using iOS 7 on my 5S. It was flaky enough that I stopped using it for a while, until a 7.x upgrade made it much better.

When I moved to iOS 8 it seemed to respond even more quickly than under iOS 7. But recently (maybe with 8.1.2, maybe not) it seemed to forget my fingerprint quickly.

I am curious if anyone else has noted this. I certainly haven't seen *reports* of it in the news feeds about Apple stuff.
