Re: [apple-iphone] To reorder or not to reorder?

Yes, thanks for the info. I hadn't heard about no contract, but I'll see what happens when I do get  my phone.

I know att has been trying to talk me into the shared plan. I don't want to do that right now.
although I have three on my contract, my husband, and two adult children, I would like the two adult children one day to get off my plan, but they
can't afford not to right now. Also, I don't want to give up my grandfathered unlimited data plan. It is true I don't use a lot of data,
but also I don't have to worry about it so much this way and for now that is worth the extra cost to me. I may not feel that way in the future, but right now
I know once I give it up, I'll never get it again UNLESS ATT decides to compete with companies that now longer require a limited data plan.

I'm not sure what you meant however. If you are on a no contract mo. to mo plan why choose any plan unless as you say you found one to lower your costs.
For now I'd rather have no plan if possible b/c if  either of my children are finally ready to go it on their own, I wouldn't be held to a fine because they were on my contract. I think your plan, if I understand it, is kind of like a rental plan.  Someone else on this list said they did some calculations and in the long run over the total costs it wasn't all that much of a savings, but then I'm not sure I understand any of this. I know that ATT is not going to lose money.  I am probably out of contract now so when I get a phone I may have to sign up for something, but if I can be on a no contract basis, that will be fine with me.

Ellen,

When I called ATT a couple of months ago to ask about upgrades. I had been doing 2 yr contracts for years. I was told by ATT that they no longer did the 2 yr contracts and I would be on a no contract month to month basis and could change plans anytime. They went over some plans and I choose the one closest to what I have. I think it was called a shared plan(my fiancee and I both have iPhones on the same bill at our address) or something close to that. I has cut my bill by almost 1/2 of my contract plan. Also, I could upgrade to whatever I wanted in iPhones and the payments would be spread out over time. I only had to pay the taxes upfront. I didn't know about this new "no contract" option until I spoke to the ATT rep. I signed up that same day and it has definitely lowered my bill. Even with the phone payment added, it will still be less than I paid before. I believe they called it a shared data plan. I stick with ATT because I live so far out and I always get good reception with ATT. Not so with others I tried. I hope that helped. I was actually NOT out of contract when I called, but they let me switch instantly to the no contract plan. Maybe ATT is responding to competition that offers all kinds of no contract plans.
