Did you try restoring from backup?

I have a 3gs. Yesterday it stopped its normal working and showed a picture of a usb plug and says iTunes. Nothing got the screen to change so I had to reformat the thing. It took 6 hours and everything is missing. I connect to my laptop everyday to sync and back up. But I don't see any pictures or contacts or texts now .
