I have a front pocket on my purse I keep my iPhone 5 in. It protects it quite well. No screen protector. I use this blue Great Shield case and really like it http://www.amazon.com/GreatShield-iSlide-Dock-Friendly-Slim-Fit-PolyCarbonate/dp/B0093A5YN6/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1370417620&sr=8-3&keywords=great+shield+iphone+5+case

I don't use a screen protector on my 4S, and I have no scratches, even after working on a remote heavy construction site.

If you are concerned with scratching, then maybe a sleeve type case might be better. Or just putting the current BookBook case into a dedicated pocket in your purse.
