I have a X10 system running in my house so that was one of the first places I looked. In the past, I was sure they had something like that but I could no longer find it. In general X10 sends commands but the device that receives the command, sends nothing back. X10 would require that I have a PC running to connect the WiFi portion of the control setup. There is another extended standard for X10 which does send commands back but it would take both a new transmitter and a receiver.
The iGrill device is interesting but it communicates with the iPhone via Blue Tooth which does not work for me. I need WiFi.
I found a device on Amazon that might work. Here is the link:
http://www.amazon.com/La-Crosse-D111-102-E1-WGB-Wireless-Monitor/dp/B0081URJHI/ref=sr_1_22?ie=UTF8&qid=1372095245&sr=8-22&keywords=wifi+thermometer
It gets some good reviews and some very poor reviews. If anyone has any personal experience with this device, I would be interested in hearing about it. It has both an IOS and Android app. It looks like there may be a new version that has just come out also. That might fix some of the problems.
Normally I spend 4 months in Mexico during the winter and I have IP cameras setup in my house. This allows me to check on things from anywhere in the world and I do not keep a local PC running. They have internal web servers which show the picture or it can be sent by FTP or email.
It sure seems like a simple project for a company to modify one of these devices to measure temperature also.
Being water proof would be nice but my current delta T controller monitors the top of the solar panel and the bottom of the tub on metal fittings using thermocouples. I could attach a probe to the same metal fitting which is inside the housing around the bottom of my tub and the package would not have to be water proof.
Thanks for all the input.

The solar panels are below the hot tub so when the controller shuts the pump off, there is still convection flow. This often makes the hot tub 8 to 10 degrees hotter than the max set point of the controller. Once the pump shuts off the panels can still boil. This sounds like there is an elephant walking on my deck.
