I suggest to leave iMessage on, and setup an iCloud email address for hubby, using his normal email address
In iMessage settings, Send and Recieve, set the email address to his normal one, the iCloud one. If the iPad is Cellular, thats not really relevant as its not a phone, it won't get SMS texts as far as I know.In iTunes settings, keep using your Apple ID, so you can both share apps and iTunes sourced content

A wonderful Christmas to you Pat!
I presumed that your husband ipad is only a wifi compliant, since your text messages appeared on it, of which this will not happened if it is a 3G device because there has its own number.
In some other instances, setting up accounts like in iTunes, pretty sure you had entered your mobile number and some other contact details or informations which you cannot prevent some of your SMS appeared on his ipad.
I just wanted to know if your husband used his ipad as one way of sending sms, if not, go to:
Settings
Messages
iMessage (this must be disabled)
Remember that you said, only some of your messages and replies, this might only occured when both contacts turned ON the iMessage OPTION. Turning OFF iMessage, ipad will not anymore received text messages.

Hi Everyone,Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. My husband bought an iPad Mini two weeks ago and I set it up on my iTunes account. I have an iPad 2 and an iPhone 5. What just started to happen a couple of days ago was that he is receiving some of my text messages. Not all of them, but just some of my responses. I really don't mind that he sees them, but how do we change this?I do not have my email set up on his iPad, just his email account..Thanks for your help.~~Pat Gravel~~
