I have a 2013 Mini Cooper Clubman. When I got it, the salesman set up my iPhone to work with my car. Now, as long as I have my iPhone Bluetooth turned on, it automatically connects to my radio. It also allows me to answer phone calls which go through my car speakers.

Very rarely, my BT connects automatically. Most times, I have to pull out my phone and make the connection manually.I will do a search for the clarion radio that I had installed specifically for this purpose.Werner

My experience with my iPhone and my car (Infiniti) is like yours. I get in the car and they simply connect up (with BT on and pre-linked for both the car and the phone). This includes hand-free telephone, streaming internet radio or music from the iPhone itself.> Oh oh, how do you get it to connect with your car radio automatically? I would LOVE to do that. I never turn my BT off, but I always have to connect it manually to my car radio by going into the settings. The problem is that I never remember till I am driving and a phone call comes in, and it doesn't come through the radio.
I didn't have to do anything special with the iPhone. Bluetooth in ON in both the car and the iPhone, and it just connects as soon as the car is turned on.
I suspect you may be suffering either from a bad implementation of BT in your car, or an out-of-date version.
You might try a web-search for "bluetooth in <my car>" and see what turns up.
