> For me in NZ, to use iCloud for mail means I need to create an @icloud.com email address. I have used my main email address since 1999.
I think I got one of my email addresses in 1996. That ISP is still my wife's mail provider, but I switched away from it years ago, specifically to obtain a single public address that all my mail could be sent to. Then, even if circumstances caused me to change my ISP, I wouldn't have to tell everyone a new address all over again.
Meanwhile, over the years, the Net evolved. Now the one address thatI try to get everything sent to is my icloud.com address.
> I want all of my email/contacts/folders everywhere, and webmail does that on my home computer via webmail, and on my iPhone and iPad. I am sure that iCloud does the same, but can you use that on any online computer?
My contacts, calendar, mail, mail folder structure*, notes, and some specific, designated documents in Pages and Numbers are present on and automatically sync'd among my Mac, iPhone, and iPad.
* in Mail, I have some folders that are specifically designated as "On My Mac" so that they will NOT sync.
If I find myself somewhere with my iPhone dead, I can use any computer to browse to iCloud.com and read stuff there.
