Re: [apple-iphone] Limiting/prioritizing email on iPhone5

I had the impression you were using web mail, but again that was a guess. But alternative outside what you are currently using, would depend upon which you are using, PC or Mac.

Opening an iCloud account for email or not, does not prevent you from using or keeping your main email address.

Can you do all those things on any online computer? Yes, pretty much the same as you do it with web mail & yahoo. The one exception is that iDevices apparently can not access icloud.com. There you have to use the apps to access the information.

As far as AT&T cellular pricing, I pay about US $ 75 for 450 minutes, 200 text and grandfathered unlimited data (which really means no hassles up to 2-3 GB). Plus fees. So your rates are pretty close to ours.

I generally use under 10 minute voice, 20 texts and a month traveling for work might use 1 GB of data. I wish they would roll-over the unused data like they do the voice, but I have never reached 2 GB, but I could.

I think they charge $45 for the privilege of tethering. On my last business trip, where I was living in a motel for 3 months, I gave up and bought a Hotspot and paid $50 for 5 GB per month. Much better than $90 per month for extremely slow WiFi in the motel only.

Hi, the other Brent!

No grief taken. Why I said that a PC or Mac isn't relevant was that if you use webmail you are using a website, so the platform doesn't matter.

For me in NZ, to use iCloud for mail means I need to create an @icloud.com email address. I have used my main email address since 1999. So thats not really of any desire for me. In any case, I want all of my email/contacts/folders everywhere, and webmail does that on my home computer via webmail, and on my iPhone and iPad. I am sure that iCloud does the same, but can you use that on any online computer?

How do I add a signature in this forum?

Re mobiles, yes, it is odd that lil ol NZ seems less restrictive than the US, however, I am sure the plans are far better than what we have.

Free tethering and unlocked phones probably arent much help if the plans arent as good.

Oh, it is relevant, to what we suggest as solutions.

There are no flame wars here. I may be a crabby at times, but I will not give you any grief over your choice of platforms.

In the case below, you don't want a iCloud account, so you can't use that as a solution, and you don't have a Mac, so you can't look at that to see if that would better resolve the issue. It is relevant as to which platform you use. No flaming here, just a desire to give you an appropriate answer. So for now, using Yahoo web email sounds like a good choice for you. There is no one answer for all. Besides I would not want to forward all my email to another account. Just one more thing that could break or go wrong.

Nothing wrong with PCs, and I my guess is that we have a pretty even mix of PC and Mac users here. I have used both. I prefer Mac, but I am fairly competent in Windows for the basics. Every platform and OS has good points and bad points. What works best for the individual is a personal choice, and the one you are comfortable with, is the one you will have the most success with.

Like I said in another reply recently, "If people would include a signature like below when they post a question or problem, we could stop guessing so much."

And from other posts, you are correct, the cellphone policies in the US are not the best, but it is what we have to work with. I envy your ability to tether without additional charges. I wish I could buy an unsubsidized phone and get lower rates, because when you do bring a unsubsidized phone to a new plan or carrier, we don't get a break.

It's a PC but that isn't relevant actually.

My solution is that I use yahoo webmail and it works sweet. No settings configuration etc.
