I googled, and found on <https://www.imobie.com/support/fix-ios-12-bluetooth-issues.htm>:
"iOS 12 has been designed to almost completely disappear the Bluetooth icon from the status bar. It only appears in the status bar when you connect it to some accessory such as your headphones. Since it is not a bug, thus there is not the possibility of being able to rehabilitate it unless Apple wants to change it."
