With "if it's only your phone" you hit the point, Alice.
Nowadays a smartphone may be one's most important connection with other people, even with other devices (home automation, banking). If that should be the case, then being without it would be alarming. If it shouldn't, one should feel lucky. :-)
Just to raise smiles:
I'm a tablets person, but I have two mobile phone subscriptions, each with twin SIM-cards. I use one out of two iPhones and one out of two Android phones. If one of these four devices should fail me, I could reinstate a third Android phone or (probably) an old Windows phone. (I purchased the newer Windows phone when I had planned to buy the original iPhone.)

All depends on if you can be without your device for 1-2 weeks. If it's your only phone...
Also, if it's iOS related, Apple can fix it sometimes the same day.

HiI get protection for all of my iDevices & other electronics thru www.squaretrade.com. I find square trade to be cheaper than apple care. And the quality of the repairs are good. The turn around time for repairs is 1-2 weeks.DonnaI buy Apple Care Plus for my phones and have been completely satisfied when I've had to use it.Pat

I just got my iPhone X 2 days ago and was thinking about getting "some kind" of coverage
for it due to the cost.
I really do not know the differences between AC and carrier insurance. I can get coverage
thru my carrier for $7, I think it is, a month. Not sure if its worth it or AC is better. I only
want to get something.
