I contacted the developer of one of my most vital apps 3 times. He ignored me until the 3rd attempt and said that he does plan to make it iOS 11 compatible and that every day that passes he loses money.
So maybe there is hope for some of the apps that haven't yet updated. Hey, we all procrastinate, right? I don't know how easy it is the rewrite such things but some may still be planning to do it.
I kept an old phone ( in addition to my X) just so I could still have access to the old working version of that app which I still use daily.

Hi Rich - that is one of the reasons why I had suggested starting new for iOS if you had been away a long time.
I lost many a fine app when the iOS 11 came out. We were warned months before that any apps that weren't properly updated would be inoperable. They suggested writing the developer to encourage updating but a lot the developers went " by the board " so to speak.
Cordially,
