Re: [apple-iphone] Did I miss something? Having TEXT issues with MacBook

I have been unsuccessful in trying to send a text message from my MacBook to a NON-iPhone. I keep getting a error message about the phone not being registered with iMessage.  This is a phone I text regularly. Was this something new in 10.11.6 (El Capitan)?

SMS text messaging (as opposed to, for example, iMessage) is a function of your cellular carrier.

iMessage — to Apple devices set up to receive iMessages — is capable of making use of Wifi.

So the answer to the specific question you asked is, "No".
