Re: [apple-iphone] pics

The iPhone does NOT need to be locked to connect it to a PC. If it IS locked when you connect it, you have to unlock it, but if it's unlocked when you connect, you don't have to do anything.

BTW, "unlocked" means you entered your passcode. The iPhone is "unlocked" whenever you use it.

Mac I think you use image capture, I've never done that, others will chime in

PC, back in the day you just connect it to a PC, in Windows Explorer ye camera roll folder shows up, move or copy. Now, attach to the PC
while phone is locked, unlock it, Yes to Do You Trust This Computer, and the folders will be there in Windows Explorer

Thanks again Tony! I'm a bit lost with this locking or unlocking. Does that mean have the phone on or off?

RE: [apple-iphone] pics

Also, It seems that if you are spending 5 minutes to swipe through that HUMONGOUS camera roll to get to the object of your deletion desire.... ....and you decide to yawn just a little bit too long and the screen saver kicks in and then you enter in your unlock code....the camera roll is set to the end of the camera roll....you have to swipe through the camera roll again...:-( So, plan your bathroom or coffee break (and yawning) before you start deleting all or a few of your thousands of photos...:-) Of course, if I am missing an icon that displays the camera roll in a 16 or 32 or 64 preview grid that is swipe-able, feel free to illuminate me. Note: iOS7 will not sync with an old iTunes on an Old OS so possibly mass deleting from camera when connected to iTunes on a Mac is not an option, but may be a valid option. Have to verify that iPhoto library is backed up and mass deletion from iTunes will not modify iPhoto library of course. If you connect the phone to the computer with the charging lead, then look in my PC, you should see an icon of your phone.
Open that and look in the folders for your photos.
That works for me.

Re: [apple-iphone] pics

I don't know about "apple approved" methods, but on a PC, your iPhone is treated as any external device.  You can set up windows to automatically import your pictures to your PC, and I believe you can set it up to delete the pictures after importing.

However, whether you have imported them to your PC or not, you can mass delete through Windows Explorer:
1. Open Windows Explorer for "This PC" or "My Computer" or whatever it is called on your machine.  You'll see all devices contacted to your machine, such as your CD drive, your thumb drive, and your iPhone.
2.  Double click on your iPhone, and you will see a drive folder called "Internal Storage."
3.  Double click on the "Internal Storage" icon, and you will see a folder called DCIM.
4.  Double click on the DCIM folder, and you will see one or more folders with names like 100APPLE and 101APPLE.
5.  Open one of those folders, and you will see all of your photos.  The names are useless (e.g.IMG_0001) but if you view Extra Large icons, you can see what the photos are.  Select as many as you want (or even all, if you want to delete them all), and click the Delete key.
