I don't have personal knowledge of this (you'd need to contact the European phone company) but I've heard that you can remove the SIM from the phone and purchase a European plan, then put the original SIM back when you return home.

I need to find out if I can use my iphone5 and it's features in Europe without it costing me an arm & a leg?
Has anyone here used their phone in Europe?
What are the do's and don'ts?
Are there inexpensive options ?
Thank-you in advance for any advice on your experiences.
