Sorry for the delay,
I was told by a Senior AppleCare advisor, that it does not change your purchases. So I would guess that you just have to unhide them before trying to re-install.

That method *does* work, but it is unnecessary to go that far.
Do not *automatically* iTunes-sync your iPhone on connection to your computer, and remove the app from the list, in iTunes, of apps to be synced to your iPhone when you do so manually.
