​I agree, Werner, I'm also one of those who need to avoid cellular data because of a limited data plan.​

I've just returned from holiday abroad where I used data roaming; when I came back the cellular data didn't work. I had to re-enter the WAP and MMS settings manually; I think this is because I use a cheap deal from a supermarket (Leclerc) which rents space on a major French carrier (SFR).

If it is not unusual, it ought to be. Many like me have a limited cellular data plan and only want to turn it on in emergencies.

And if trying Airplane mode does not work, you can reset the network settings, which besides contacts the local towers, but may download any network settings that might have changed since you last used data.
