Let's say right now, my cellular data is off (I don't ant any data coming down because I have a ltd data plan). My wifi is on. I leave the house. I can place a call with no problem. Now, I am in my car, and want to use Yelp to find a restaurant. I turn my cell data on. I will at this point always get the message, No internet connection available" and although I wait in order to give the phone plenty of time to connect, it doesn't, unless I reboot the phone.
I cannot use airplane mode, because then I lose my phone connectivity as well, and cannot call out, nor can I receive calls.
Try the technique -- after turning cell data on -- of turning Airplane Mode on for 10-15 seconds, then off again. If this works to restore your internet connection, it will be both faster and easier than rebooting.
