if 'ask to join' was ON then at some point in time you must've joined that
network. network SSID's are memorized and automatically accessed when your
device is in range. 'ask to join' will display any networks in range and
prompt you to join a network when the phone detects one. when ATJ is OFF
you have to manually seek out networks.

Thanks--I should have realized it would be something like that. (By the way,
I did have Ask to Join Networks on but it was never asking; I was just
automatically connected. What difference does it make to have it on or off?)
As for my neighbor's network, the regular one is locked but there is a guest
one they previously told me I could use when mine had gone out. Normally I
would use my own network though.
