All of that is good to hear. And sounds like she had thought it through.

Re: [apple-iphone] Re: iPhone Data Tracking App

Dear Gijzette

One question is the NOAA radio AC/DC, if AC and the power goes out she may not get
the info she needed. Had the same problem with my father ( mother had pasted ), his city had
a program that sent out a text if there was a problem with weather or environment. If major
problem then they would call the home or cell phone number listed in the program with a
recorded message.
He told me that they called one time when there was a truck accident carrying some
bad chemicals, telling everyone to stay inside until they gave an all clear.

Also make sure you mother has "ICE" numbers listed on her phone!

Re: [apple-iphone] iPhone Data Tracking App

Do note that AT&T will message her when she hits 80% of the data plan, she can also turn wireless data off in settings. I have found the AT&T app to be close to actual usage.
I have had the small data plan and find that normally I don't come close to the limit, I did 1 month which is how I found out about the message, they could not tell me why the high usage but had me turn off data until the end of the billing cycle and reset the iPhone.

Jerry,

We are discussing Do Not Disturb. She has a NOAA weather radio that will
alert her for bad weather so I'm not worried about that.

RE: [apple-iphone] iPhone Data Tracking App

the DataMan app resets itself on a date each month set by the user. it will report wifi and cellular data usage and it's free...at least it was when I acquired it a couple of years ago.

rich
Does your Mom's iPhone bill come at the same time each month? If so, you could set a reminder on her iPhone that would remind her at the same time every month to go in and reset her data usage. Does your Mom know how to turn on wifi? If she has it at home, that's a good thing to use. In places like Starbucks, McDonalds etc, she could use their wifi when there, I find quite a few wifi spots and use them over data. It helps keep my data usage down.

Re: [apple-iphone] Re: iPhone Data Tracking App

If you or your Mom sets up the Do Not Disturb, your Mom wouldn't have to turn off her iPhone. She could put you as a favorite so if you needed to call her when her phone was in Do Not Disturb mode, her phone would still ring you through.

Re: [apple-iphone] iPhone Data Tracking App

Sounds like gentle and persistent education may be you're best bet.

Tell her that unless she listens to music all day or lots of movies every month, she should be well below her data limit. Then show her each month what she has used.

She is possibly on a limited budget and $70 a month is a lot for a phone bill. With my current under-employment my $80 a month is a lot. Does she really need a smart phone? Does she really need an internet connection on a cell phone? That is really a small display for 75 year old eyes.

the apps require this? I am trying to get her to use Do Not Disturb instead

Thanks!
