Now the question is, "Is Bill's phone unlocked?" I believe the iPhone 5 in the US comes locked, and AT&T is a stickler about only unlocking iPhones unless the contract is satisfied. (PITA!) But then again, at least one of his other iPhones may be unlocked. He has completed his contract on at least one of them. While Bill was not accurate on which models he has, all of them back to the 3G do operate on UTM 2100.
Interesting, Vishal's post of Mar 25, 2013 7:35 AM has not reached me, but the later one did. Anyway…
How do you keep the home number, if you are using a local SIM card while traveling? Since it is not an option that is available to me, I am curious. I'm glad you are sharing this information with us, but explain how, since we appear to be using different providers, who operate with different rules.

I just checked with my friend who's in Japan. He confirmed iPhone 5 would
work in Japan. He also suggest to get service like matrix as the rates are
cheaper. I guess $1 outgoing & incoming free.
