I had something vaguely similar happen yesterday. The phone (iPhone 5) rang in the car. The blututh speaker (Blue Ant ST3) picked up the call, but the audio didn't transfer to the Blue Ant speaker. When I hung up, the Blue Ant announced that the call had been terminated.
Too many little things have to work together perfectly or something important breaks.
Hm, now that I think of it, raising the iPhone to my ear might have been the problem.
Of course it's impossible for programmers and engineers to think of everything, but if they don't, there are going to be an increasing number of these little air pockets, some of them dangerous. Too many electronic conveniences can lead to more problems than solutions. Both sides - user and machines - need to think more like each other.
I know - overreacting :0)
